How do you improve your emotional expression?


I’ve recently spent a bit of time dealing with issues of emotional dissonance, close friends who think I don’t show enough empathy or emotions. Yes I care but I don’t have the energy to feel those feelings, let alone express them. My emotions are not being suppressed either, they just exist on a much smaller scale than most people, they’re more controllable that way and that’s how I like it. With friends getting older and bonds getting closer it’s becoming a pressure point in most close friendships, I don’t “express” enough… Am I subconsciously withholding or it’s normal to just  not be so touchy feely with everyone, even your close friends.
